Yellowstone” is back and John Dutton (Kevin Costner) wins the gubernatorial election. But don’t worry: he totally hates it! Despite the efforts of Market Equities and all the enemies the Dutton family has made along the way, the position is to keep his family’s land.

Featuring John’s Children: Legendary Beth (Kelly Reilly), Ride or Die for Family. Human weasel Jamie (Wes Bentley) is castrated as a result of Beth’s blackmail after murdering his biological father. and rancher Case (Luke Grimes). In the first episode of the season, the story skips from the last time we saw the Dutton clan, and the family is doing well. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) wins the gubernatorial election and is inaugurated as the staunch, staunch gatekeeper of Montana (and his ranch).

With Lynel Perry (Wendy Moniz) elected to the Senate, the Dutton family and their allies now have real power to kick off the season. So far, nothing shocking or surprising to anyone who’s seen the season 5 trailer and what it entails.

However, if John is expected to rock the boat soon, be prepared for a gentle rocking rather than a violent ride. Season 5’s premiere is about rocky ride promises, but those promises are certainly interesting enough. One of his storylines that was left somewhat open last season was the abuse of Beth (Kelly Riley) and Dutton’s black sheep Jamie (Wes Bentley).

When Jamie’s biological father (Will Patton) is revealed to be behind the Dutton attack, Beth manipulates the weak-willed Jamie into killing his father and returning it neatly to the Dutton family’s pocket. Jamie’s story could be the most interesting thread of the season if some of the moments we packed into the first episode pay off.

We’re right next to John, but Jamie is a little further away. This happens again when Jon is sworn in a little later in the episode and Dutton’s long list of enemies begins to notice a rift between supposedly family members only to study Jamie’s reaction to his adoptive father’s victory.

Interestingly, Jamie and Beth take a long look when confetti falls on John’s celebration. When Jamie tries to stare at Beth, it looks like there’s a plan for a moment. His sister also noticed an uncharacteristic sign of trust.

Yellowstone is one of the television industry’s mysteries and a highly acclaimed show

but like the late comedian Rodney Dangerfield, he hasn’t always earned a lot of respect. That dynamic was headlined by Vanity Fair last year as “the most-watched show in Yellowstone that not everyone is talking about.” Still, the new season of the Paramount Network series hopes to make it a little more relatable by taking a sharp turn to politics in keeping with Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, and all the soapy machinations surrounding his sprawling ranch.

Indeed, Montana politics has been part of the series from the beginning. But in last season’s gubernatorial race, Dutton threw his hat in the ring and put him in position, saying in his acceptance speech at the season five premiere, “That was never my plan.”
